A GENERAL SUMMARY OF WHAT’S IN GAME UPDATE 61:

All dungeon and overland loot items have been re-itemized. What does this mean? It means loot everywhere should be legitimate for the level it drops for, no matter where you go now. Go explore some nooks and crannies you haven’t seen for a long time and get off the Golden Path! The loot’s good again.

The Velious saga continues as you journey past the Citadel of Drunder to the Plane of War itself in a new dungeon and raid, and a continuation of the Signature quest line.

New dynamically-scaling dungeons have been added. These scale to your group between levels 60-90 and are designed as new single group heroic content that’s more re-playable. We’ll be watching your reactions to these initial two dungeon experiments and improving on these in the future!

The new House Rating System lets you publish your house so other players can rate it, as well as adding house leaderboards, easy access to housing, and more! (And we increased House Ownership limits to 20, instead of 10!)

If you ever wanted to show EQII to your friends, it’s now very easy. Push a button, record, and post your footage to YouTube with our new Video Capture system.

The Eastern Wastes area in Velious now has a lot more overland content added to it (the new quests start at the Ry’Gorr keep).

A big revamp of the class AA tree so that it’s easier to select the AAs you want, and adding more utility to the AAs that were weak previously.

Many stats have been un-capped so that they have meaning as your characters progress. This doesn’t result in massive power increases, but it does let all stats continue to have meaning as you earn new items and power. Additional mechanics changes were made to increase power for many classes. (See below for things like spell auto-attack, flurry improvements, etc.)

Tradeskillers now have their own AA tree to chase!

And yes, Fae and Arasai now have a level 85 quest that can unlock their ability to FLY!

A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT!

The reitemization means that the following things are going to occur:

All of your items are going to become UNATTUNED.

Any item that you are wearing at the time of this update *that has adornments on it* will have those adornments popped off and returned to your inventory. (You can put them right back on afterward, if you so desire.)

Because of the AA revamp, *all AA points are reset*. Thus, you should plan a bit of time to reassign your AA points after this update.

We are excited to bring you the Plane of War raid, but since the raid progression has not yet been completed by players to allow access to that raid, we’re going to take advantage of that situation to keep the door locked for a week to give it a bit more polish.

The Dungeon Finder feature scheduled for GU 61 is slightly delayed. It will become available ASAP after it sits on Test for a week or so.

There’s lots more. See the details below for more info!

PLANE OF WAR

The time is near for the great Fortress of Drunder to reveal its true purpose to all. The very bedrock of the Eastern Wastes shudders as a massive portal rips itself open within the fortress walls. The sounds of battle echo through its halls as the God of War himself prepares his innumerable armies to march across the frozen face of Velious and seize control of the lands of Norrath for all eternity. Are you ready to face Rallos Zek himself? Prove your mettle against the Children of War to enlist their aid in battle as you leave the mortal world behind and face a god himself in the Plane of War!

The Plane of War is a normal and challenge mode raid.

Elements of War is a normal and challenge mode heroic experience.

Two new dynamically scaling dungeons have opened up in the Sinking Sands. These dungeons automatically scale to your party between levels 60 and 90. The entrances can be found using the door to Silent City and the newly added genie’s lamp directly next to it.

THE PALACE OF SABARON

Sabaron’s Palace is the home of a mad Djinn who believes that by using his power and the power of a newly discovered artifact, the Tear of Anashti, he can raise an army of Sul’Dal to march on the Plane of Air and take it over for Djinn to rule. His palace is full of undead evils he has resurrected as well as his most trusted attendants.

SILENT CITY: THE DELVING DEAD

The dead within the halls of the Silent City are restless after lifetimes of slumber, as if roused by an unseen hand. Ancient overseers crack whips as the undead hordes delve deep into hallowed soil. They labor tirelessly, endlessly searching for an ancient artifact of great power.

BEASTLORD PRELUDE EVENT #1

Strange spiritual energies have emerged within Antonica and Commonlands. A few spiritual-attuned individuals have felt this new energy, like gentle ripples on the surface of a calm lake. What might this new power be, and what secrets might it hold for the future of Norrath? Interested adventurers should seek out either Caalina, who can be found in Antonica outside the gate to North Qeynos, or Elmin, who has begun his investigation near the city gates to Freeport in Commonlands.

HOUSE RATING SYSTEM

You can now publish your house to be rated against fellow decorators!

The ‘Housing Leaderboards’ window can be accessed through the EQII menu or by using the /house_ratings command.

Use the ‘Publish / Unpublish’ button on your house’s door menu to add / remove your house from the leaderboards window.

You cannot place or move items in a published house.

Unpublishing your house will reset its rating, but it won’t reset any awards you have obtained.

Visit homes on the list and let the owners know what you think.

You may rate a house once per account. You may re-rate a house as often as you like but only the last rating will be kept.

Houses will earn awards each day for their position on the leaderboard.

Houses can eventually enter the Hall of Fame when they earn enough awards.

VIDEO CAPTURE

The ability to capture video and upload it to YouTube.com has been added. Note: 4GB of system memory is recommended when using the video recording feature. Systems with less than 4GB of memory may experience a decrease in performance when using this feature.

The Video Capture Window is now hidden by default (use the default hotkey Alt+y to toggle it).

After recording video, a file called EQ2VideoCapture.avi will be placed in your root install directory. If you record a second video it will overwrite this file.

A UI window to upload your video to YouTube.com will appear after recording video.

Video Capture Options/Settings:

Hotkey can be changed under Controls – Window Keys – Video Capture Window

The Fortress of Drunder has emptied of Rallos Zek and his armies as they pass into the Plane of War to prepare for their eventual march on the Western Wastes. The Demi-Gods, Tallon and Vallon Zek, are subjugated within its towers, ignorant of Rallos’ grand scheme. Only Sullon Zek, the Maiden of Rage, is aware of what is to transpire. Trapped within her own tower, she has taken great risks to seek out worthy and daring heroes and guide them into the walls of Drunder.

Now it is up to you to grapple the Minions of Zek and battle your way through events that will gain you amazing allies and set into motion a war that will end all wars!

Delve into Drunder’s:

Three new Heroic Dungeons – Spire of Rage – Strategist’s Stronghold – Tower of Tactics

Three new x4 Raids – Sullon’s Spire – Tallon’s Stronghold – Vallon’s Tower [Normal and Challenge]

One new x2 Raid – Citadel of V’uul

CRYSTAL CAVERNS: COLLAPSE

A new Heroic zone aimed to be at easy to moderate difficulty.

Ry’gorr Orcs within Eastern Wastes have unearthed a passage leading to the once thought lost Crystal Caverns. Unfortunately the caverns have grown unstable and are at threat of fully collapsing at any moment! As if that weren’t bad enough, Queen Drachnia has found her way up to the upper tunnels and blames the coldain for the collapsing tunnels. Help the coldain rescue their brethren trapped within the caves before you become a permanent fixture among the growing crystals!

PvP UPDATES

Infamy Updates

Infamy will now be on a limited ranking system.

At the end of each season, the rankings will reset and a new season of hunting will begin with everyone.

There will be chat messages with the amount of infamy/fame gained or lost whenever it is gained or lost.

There is no multiplier for difference in rank when killing another player for infamy. Killing a hunter gives the same amount no matter what the killer’s rank is.

Exiles do not gain fame or infamy. They do not cause loss when killing others, nor do they take a share of rewards when assisting others.

PvP Interface Updates

Fame/Infamy bar:

On a PvP server you can now select the “Show Fame” or “Show Infamy” option on your xp bar to watch your progress up (or down) the fame/infamy charts. You can see how close you are to getting a rank, or losing one and watch it go up and down as it progresses!

PvP Reward Updates

There is no more “honorable” or “dishonorable” kills. You no longer need to wait until your victim is done fighting his monster, or wait for them to heal up before attacking them for credit. On the same note, watch your back when adventuring in open zones.

You will get no credit for killing, or assisting in killing players who con grey or red to you. Nor will you lose infamy if you are only attacked by red and/or grey conning aggressors. Stick to targets in your level range for best results.

You will get no credit for killing trial account players, nor will trial account players cause infamy loss if it is only trial account players who are the aggressors.

Only untitled players will get added to the recent list, so you can kill a titled player over and over, until he loses his title then only once per 30 minutes.

The rewards for a player kill will be shared evenly among all players who assisted in the kill and all members of all groups those players belong to. NOTE: This could reduce the individual share to 0 and will do so quickly when killing untitled targets. Infamy is awarded based on the rank of the victim, so aim for the highest titled targets you can find for best results.

If a player dies, and is in PvP combat, the player will lose infamy, even if the victim dies from falling damage or from an NPC.

Note: Large raids killing a single target will get each person 0 infamy since the split is too small with that many killers. And thus, 1v1 fights will yield the largest amount of infamy.

Status is awarded like before but split amongst everyone participating.

Faction rewards are unchanged.

Players still drop between 40% and 70% of the coin on hand and have a 20% chance of dropping a treasured item (if they have one).

PvP Mechanics Updates

Passive taunts and detaunts will no longer work in PVP Combat.

PVP Potency:

This stat will increase your amount of damage, healing, runes etc while engaged in PVP combat.

Normal Potency will no longer provide a bonus while engaged in PVP combat.

PVP Crit Bonus:

This applies instead of normal crit bonus when using hostile abilities or attacks on other players or beneficial abilities while in PVP combat.

PVP Multi Attack:

This is your chance to get multiple autoattacks on a player, or player pet and does not work on NPCs. Additionally, normal multi attack will no longer work on players or player pets and only on NPCs.

PVP Spell Multi Attack:

This is your chance to have an attack spell hit a player, or player pet multiple times and does not affect spells cast on NPCs. Additionally, normal spell multi attack will no longer work on players or player pets and only on NPCs.

PvP Mentoring

Mentored players can once again fight back if attacked in PVP.

AE Auto attack will not hit mentored players or players grouped with mentored players unless you attack them directly.

Any enemy player who is mentoring, or grouped with a mentor will show the dragons on his name above his head like a raid monster would. Players using detailed arrows will see a triple up arrow instead of the dragons above player names. Let it serve as a warning because fighting a mentoring player is a difficult fight.

PvP Language

You can now select what language your character is speaking on a PVP server and a Battleground server.

You can speak common on a PVP server.

On a pvp server you can use /shout and /say to communicate with the other team… assuming you are speaking a language they understand.

You can now use /say and /shout on a battleground server.

Battlegrounds Updates

A new battleground has been added, “The Frozen Tundra”. It includes a new match type called “Vanquish”.

There is now a battleground lobby (Champion’s Respite)!

In the lobby you can chat, group and/or raid up with other battleground players across all servers and can queue together for battlegrounds.

In the lobby you can use the vendors to purchase new battleground gear between matches.

When you would like to return to your home server, click the portal object in the middle of the zone or press the exit button in the upper right while you are in the lobby!

When you complete a match you will be returned to the lobby, to make for shorter zoning times between matches.

A portal to the Champion’s Respite can now be found near the Scions of Discord.

TRADESKILLS

Tradeskill Progression Updates

Since the introduction of quest experience being the major method of leveling tradeskills and moving away from pristine combines, a gap was left around level 17. It was found that tradeskill quests propelled you on your way with plenty to do, but when you got to around level 17 a gap of no directed content was found. To counter this, level 15 tradeskill writs have been implemented for craftsmen, outfitters, and scholars. This will give you something to work on until you hit level 20 and continue on the quest progression, and also lets you start earning status for your guild a little sooner.

Tradeskill Harvesting Updates

While looking at harvesting it was found that it was taking too long at lower levels which made it an undesirable activity to take part in. The base harvesting time has been reduced to 3 seconds. To make this work, the harvesting time reduction of harvesting tools needed to be lowered. These tools are available at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 70. Their harvest time reductions have been lowered to .1, .2, .3, .4, and .5 seconds respectively. This means the time to harvest at 20 can be 2.9 seconds down to 2.5 seconds at 70+. Compare this with the old time at 20 which would be 4.5 seconds and down to 2.5 seconds 70+. Half Elf, Sarnak, Human, Dwarf, and Wood Elf traditions that granted harvesting time reductions have also been halved.

While harvesting, it was found that leveling up your adventure or tradeskill level was much faster than gaining skill ups for harvesting. This would leave you in lower level tiers harvesting until you had enough skill to move into the next tier. This is because the chance to gain a skill is based on a ratio of your skill against the skill of the harvest node. This chance to gain skill has been increased by between 20 and 30% based on your ratio.

Tradeskill General

Mira in Fina’s Retreat is seeking more assistance from crafters who have helped her before.

A new first time event has been created for the first time you harvest a harvest node. You will be sent an in game mail from Lian Augren who will ask you to come visit her son on the Isle of Mara who is interested in harvesting. The intent is to make sure that harvesters are aware of the Gathering Obsession questline from the beginning of their harvesting career rather than finding him later and having to do backtrack harvesting.

Harvest nodes in Nektulos now respawn faster.

Harvest nodes in Rivervale now spawn based on the geography where you would think they should logically appear. There are also nodes in non-aggressive areas of the map so non-adventure tradeskillers have access to them. The respawn time is much faster than previously.

The fishing speed reduction on the Collapsible Fishing Tool is now 1.5 seconds down from 2.5 seconds. Since harvesting speed is 3 seconds and 1.5 seconds is the new cap it will function like it did previously where it reduced from 5 seconds to 2.5 seconds.

Woodworker created harvesting tools are now a single tool at each tier, instead of 5 individual tools. If you have one of those 5 tools it has been automatically converted into a “Harvest Kit” that affects every harvesting type. The new Harvest Kit tools will be less that you have to carry around, and will stack with Tinker made harvesting tools. These tools also now have a chance to double harvest.

Koros Splinterlimb on the Isle of Mara has gotten in some new stock! He now sells recipes that were only previously found in The Emerald Halls. He has also gotten in some new Return to Mara trinkets that allow players with tradeskill level 20 and higher to use it. A similar change to recipe merchants is that the Sentinel’s Fate Hua Mein, Quel’ule, and Kerra merchant “Secrets of” recipes are now flagged heirloom.

ZRAXTH’S UNSEEN ARCANUM

Before his death, High Shaman Zraxth meddled in dark magics, spiritual and arcane. The secrets he discovered and the planar forces that he tapped into should have been lost forever within his tower upon his death. Those who are attuned to spiritual forces are now having visions of a sinister power trying to force its way into Norrath, from somewhere hidden deep within the hallows of Guk. Now you must travel to the Ruins of Guk, and challenge what lurks inside the Unseen Arcanum.

USER INTERFACE UPDATES

The Default UI now ships with two color options; red and blue. Use the /loadui command to change color schemes.

A clock and compass have been integrated into the mini-map window (the old compass and clock UI elements were not removed and can be opened using Alt-N and Alt-C respectively).

At the bottom of the screen you will now find the Nav bar, which replaces the old experience bar and includes the EQII button and shortcuts to various UI windows (you can right-click minimize/maximize the NAV bar to hide the various shortcut keys, except for the SC and EQII buttons).

New tutorial windows have been created to help ease new players into the game.

The Marketplace window has been upgraded for easier browsing. An item preview pane has also been added.

The Welcome window layout has been reorganized to make it easier to read.

The Inventory and Persona windows were merged to create the Character window (the shortcut key for this new window is C).

Z is now the default for crouch.

The casting, breath and PvP immunity bars have been updated with a new look.

The hotbar has been reworked and is now easier to manipulate.

If a new spell is a newer version of an old spell on your hotbar it will replace the older version rather than adding a new button on your hotbar.

Spell effects that are not able to crit will say “This effect cannot be critically applied” in the spell description.

You can now freely move any UI window when viewing them in F10 mode.

You can now disable the confirmation when spending AA points under Options -> UI -> Game Features.

CHARACTER CREATION

The character creation process has been reorganized for a better flow (models will now default to their SOGA versions during character creation).

More classes are now neutral:

Neutral: Troubador, Dirge, Ranger, Assassin, Templar, Inquisitor, Fury, Warden, Coercer, Illusionist, Wizard, Warlock, Bruiser, Monk, Guardian, and Berserker

Good: Swashbuckler, Mystic, Conjurer, and Paladin

Evil: Brigand, Defiler, Necromancer, and Shadowknight

SPELL FX REVAMP

We are updating, optimizing and standardizing every class spell visual in the game. AA and Entertainment spells are next on the list and will be revealed in a later game update.

The purpose for these changes are primarily to optimize and individualize as many spells as possible so there will be more uniqueness to each class. Also we would like for more players to have the ability to keep the spell FX active during group and raid content and still be able to tell what is going on.

We analyzed the text and effects of each spell and made every effort to standardize the type of damage being done or the type of buff, heal, summon, etc. Also since we picked a single name for the spells instead of getting a new name with every spell upgrade, we tried to give the spell a visual that not only matched the damage done, but also the name of the spell.

When you start a new character you will have Apprentice spells. This spell tier along with Journeyman will have a beginner level of FX in both size and quantity. Later when you acquire Adept or Expert versions of the spells the level of FX will increase. Finally when you acquire Master and Grandmaster versions of the spells you will experience the full FX force of that spell.

One of the unique features of spells in EverQuest II is the leveling of spell skills. As you cast destructive spells your skill in Disruption increases. Healing spells increase Ministration. Buff and debuff spells increase Ordination and Crowd Control and Summon spells increase Subjugation (see figure a in the Game Update Notes forum section). Other than the chat window there was no real indication which spells increased which status. Therefore we created the spell wheel. Mages, Bards and Priests will see the spell wheel spin while casting and the corresponding Rune will show up when that skill is used. Casting runes will all emanate from the caster’s feet as part of their traditional casting rings.

Finally we set up Icons for the various other buffs in the game to show players when they are getting an increase or decrease to Intelligence, Wisdom, Focus, etc. (see figure b in the Game Update Notes forum section)

TRAVEL

Inner zone travel locations now support path linking. This means when travelling via sokokar/horse/balloon you will be able to select any location in the zone that is an available travel point and let the mount do the rest.

The KOS cloud pads can now teleport you to any other pad within the same zone.

Cloud travel around KOS zones can now be done via the Overrealms Tour Agency. They offer tour route services for Tenebrous, Barren Sky, and Bonemire.

The zone-ins for the erudin group instances have been reworked:

All three zones are now reachable by clicking the appropriate object at Marred Plateau.

When entering these zones it should now zone your group in like other group instances.

Entering the Palace of Roehn Theer has not changed.

APPEARANCE SLOTS

Weapon appearance slots are no longer restricted to being the same wield style of your equipped weapons.

Appearance slots are no longer restricted to levels 20 and higher.
