Anyone else received the email describing the rewards for the Velious expansion pre-orders. Seems its a bit different this time with two items available for each of the three months til rellease, with the final rewards being something about the Vampire race??? that has been kept under wraps and also an awesome I reeeeallly musssst HAVE ONE! White Wolf mount!
Now I just have to hope that they don't follow past trends and its is only for retail boxes and only in the USA!!! Please wake up and realise we live in a digital download world SOE :)

My take on this is far less positive. The way I see it, the race was developed using time that would otherwise have ben used on making something (like a new race) for the $40 paid expansion. In any other game, including EQ2 until now (EOF and ROK), that $40 box would include all the new features including the new race. Having a big promo about giving the thing free to loyal customers makes it look suspiciously like it's going to have an extra price tag associated with it for everyone else. (It could really truly be a pre-order only thing, but that sounds like a ton of work to put into a pre-order bonus, especially when the game hasn't had a new race in years, and SOE's current trend has NOT been to pass on an opportunity to add more stuff to the cash store.)
Also, isn't this expansion introducing flying mounts? That would somewhat diminish the value of a non-flying wolf. (As to the digitial thing, the promo is "sub for December and Jan, get stuff when you buy the expansion", so you should be OK.)

I agree on the race. Read your blog on that as well.
I really wasn't that interested in the race as I have plenty of characters and all my slots currently filled. I might buy an extra character slot for another class but I'm not really a vamp fan so at present there is little appeal. That could always change though once all the other cool kids have em and I get a case of keeping up with the joneses :)
I just thought the wolf looked awesome, from the perspective of ever present inner barbarian. Mmm with the recently added mount slots for active and appearance mounts I wonder.. a flying wolf via appearance slot? *hehe*
At least it does seem internationals will be able to get these rewards as they are based on being an active subscriber not simply for a pre-order in a USA retail store. That probably more then anything made me excited. It was very frustrating with the last expansion being denied access to the cat mounts etc. So I pretty much just tuned out on any of the pre-order rewards.

SOE has given us pretty good loyalty rewards in-game, like the Mistmoore Crags Estate — that sucker is HUGE. Don't forget the CE Highland Stalker mounts from the last expansion, too. Those are two things that come to mind immediately that haven't had alternate versions introduced to the Marketplace. Granted, the CE costs extra, but the Estate only requres a long-term active account. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing what the vampire race actually looks like, and the wolf mount looks awesome. Can't wait to see what the other rewards will be!

Latest on the EQ2 wire is:
- The lore for the new race comes from the Night of the Dead quest in Loping. (Aren't we all vampires then?)
- As I predicted, the new race WILL be a SC cash shop purchase. Moreover, it will actually be available in the SC shop almost two months before it is granted to loyal customers (by the end of this month).
- SOE accidentally published preview screenshots which were so bad that they pulled them down, apologized for having posted such rough prototypes, and promised higher quality updates in the near future (again, presumably no later than the paid launch of the race this month).
Personally, there's almost no chance that I'm going to pay money for access to this particular race. I'm satisfied with the look and feel of my current race options. If Vampires turn out to be so overpowered that they're must have from a game mechanic perspective, well, that's a cash store arms race that I have no interest in participating in.
